Handmade Exotic Wood (Bocote) Twist Pen
$30.00
This pen is made from Bocote (Cordia spp) found in Mexico and Southern America. This wood is known for figuring called "eyes" that, unlike knots, are simply twists and turns in the grain of the wood. Very comfortable to the hand, this pen is finished with multiple layers of polish and wax so that it maintains the feel of being a wooden pen. In larger quantities and sizes, this is an expensive wood that is often used for making furniture or musical instruments.
Side note: When I turn it on the lathe, it smells like dill pickles! Not now, of course, but quite unique.
When making this pen, I begin with the pen mechanics and decide upon a body. I then use my lathe to fit the body to the pen. After quite a bit of drill, gluing, shaping and sanding, the pen is quality tested and ready to go. This pen makes a wonderful gift for anyone who appreciates handcrafted items, and is perfect for birthdays, holidays, or any special occasion.
This is not a pen I would recommend for personalizing as the notable grain makes for an odd look. If you would like personalization, consider a wooden gift box which allows for a wide range of personalization options.
